KHL: Barys faces winning the Chernyshev Division

With Bary’s 3-1 win over Kunlun and Avangard’s 2-3 defeat at Amur, Astana faces the first Chernyshev Division win. Neftekhimik beats Sibir in overtime.

Avangard Omsk traveled to Khabarovsk with two wins (2-0 each). At Amur they were under pressure to move. It had to be another victory to have any chances to win the Chernyshev Division title. The bottom left of the East Conference kept the game open and in the 18th minute Vladislav Ushenin gave Amur a 1-0 lead.

After a relatively late opening goal, Omsk had to take the next goal in the 24th minute through Danil Faizullin. Nevertheless, a reaction of the guests remained. So Jan Kolar succeeded in the 36th minute still the 3-0 for the home team. In the 38th minute Avangard wrote by Viktor Stålberg for the first time (1-3) and in the final third they tried to save what was to save. Maxim Chudinov was able to score the goal for the 2-3 in the 56th minute. More was not enough and so Avangard coach Bob Hartley was more than dissatisfied. The Canadian said after the game today offered a maximum of 5 players their performance. This was absolutely unacceptable and so you could not play if you want to reach rank 1 in the division yet.

This defeat of Avangard could use Barys Astana in the home game against Kunlun to bring about a preliminary decision. Astana was also the better team, but only in the 15th minute succeeded Pavel Akolzin the opening goal to 1-0. In the second period Barys remained on the trigger and Roman Starchenko met halfway to the 2-0 lead. The Red Star needed points to stay on playoff course, but nothing came of it. In the 50th minute, Pavel Akolzin scored in a power-play the 3-0. So it did not help anymore, that Justin Fontaine in the same power play the honor-goal to 1-3 for the Red Stars could achieve. With this defeat, Kunlun is also out of the playoff race in the East. Barys Astana only needs one point from the remaining four games to fix the Division Champion title.

In Nizhnekamsk Sibir and Neftekhimik fought for important points. Sibir was three points behind the game before the game and the home team had to make up three more points to reach the playoffs yet. Neftekhimik got the better start in such an important game. Bikmullin put the home side 1-0 in front after only 25 seconds, and in the 6th minute Arsen Khisamutdinov scored the 2-0 lead. Sibir conceded in the episode even a penalty for a faulty change. Pavel Poryadin took advantage of this situation in the 11th minute for a 3-0 lead. Sibir then switched to the goalkeeper and Danny Taylor replaced the luckless Krasikov. But apparently this did not take much advantage, Khisamutdinov succeeds in the 17th minute with his second goal in the game 4-0 for Neftekhimik. 26 seconds before the first break came by the goal of Nikolai Demidov to 1-4 at Sibir hope again. In the second period it was better for the guests. Nizhnekamsk had more chances, but Sibir used her options more effectively. With 40 minutes played by Viktor Komarov (23.) and Dmitry Sayustov (35.), it was only 4-3 for the home side. In the third period the visitors were clearly stronger and Viktor Komarov scored a late 4-4-equalizer in the 56th minute. With this score, it went into overtime. Neftekhimik celebrated a home win there – Ruohomaa scored 74 seconds to score 5-4. With this third victory in a row, Neftekhimik comes eighth to four points closer, but whether this result at the end of one of the two teams will help yet.

Neftekhimik vs Sibir Novosibirsk 5-4 OT (4-1, 0-2, 0-1, 1-0)

In the fourth game of the day Vladivostok won the home game against Ufa 3-0. Thanks to Anton Krasotkin, who celebrated a shutout with 22 saves. After a great first third with three goals, Salavat Yulaev had to take the third defeat in a row.
