With a 6-0 victory at Vityaz, Torpedo remains on playoff course – Ak Bars finished defeat series with 3-2 victory in Helsinki.
Vityaz scored fully in the last five games, except SKA. With Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod came today a team to Podolsk, which came after three defeats in a row, in the playoff fight again under pressure and needed urgent points.
Torpedo took the lead in the first period through Varnakov 1-0 (9.), but Vityaz was the better team at that point. However, in the second period, Kirill Urakov’s visitors were able to score 3-0 in the 29th minute and Andrew Calof made it 3-0, just over three minutes before the second break (37.).
After just 25 seconds in the final third Calof equaled his second goal in the game – 4-0 (41.). Then there were numerous penalties for both teams. Torpedo brought out two more goals. In a 5:3-power-play Varnakov scored with his second goal to 5-0 (52.) and just over a minute later Nazarevich even ensured for the 6-0 score (53.). Thanks to the four points scored by Mikhail Varnakov (2G/2A) and the three points by Andrew Calov (2G/1A) Torpedo was able to score the points again. Torpedo are now 11 points clear of 9th in the East Conference. Vityaz, meanwhile, has just four points more in the West on Dinamo Riga, who are currently ninth.

Even the eighth, HC Sochi, could not get a point in today’s game. With Neftekhimik Mikhael Ruohomaa scoring in the 44th minute and Nizhnekamsk goalie Ilya Ezhov celebrating a shot-shot with 31 saves, Sochi remains at 53 points.

Spartak, meanwhile, is stopping the upswing in Severstal with a 4-3 victory and is already in 5th place with 61 points in the West Conference. Severstal could still turn a 0-2 in the first period to a 3-2. Martins Karsums in the second third and Alexander Osipov in the 36th minute but still made for the tight 4-3 home victory for Spartak. For Severstal, who last celebrated seven wins, this defeat is not just the end of the winning streak, they are still 13 points behind 8th place after this lost game today.

In the fourth game of the day, KHL-Champion Ak Bars Kazan ended their three-game defeat at Jokerit with a 3-2 win away in Helsinki. Stanislav Galiyev struck Kazan in the last minute of the starting period and Anton Lander’s opening goal just 13 seconds later and Alexei Potapov’s underpowered goal in the 34th minute brought Ak Bars to victory. Jormakka’s first goal in the 41st minute did not help either. For Jokerit it was the third home defeat in a row.
